Acer Leap Ware launches: New fitness smartwatch has minimal look, reasonable price and loads of features
Acer launched the Acer Leap Ware smart fitness watch at its global press conference in New York on Friday. It dons a simple design, but has interchangeable watch bands. It offers a rich suite of wellness features and can be paired with Android or iOS smartphones.
The Leap Ware smartwatch sports an elegant stainless steel round frame with a straightforward and minimalistic look. It is optimised for everyday use and includes an abundant suite of health and fitness features. Backed by a MediaTek MT2523 chipset and MT2511 bio-sensing chip, the watch includes various fitness tracking features and a slew of sensors with cutting-edge algorithms.
The new Acer smart fitness watch can monitor heart rate, stress levels, stamina, fatigue and ultraviolet ray exposure. The battery can last three to five days, depending on unit configuration, power settings and usage. The timepiece’s 1.6-inch face is protected by a Corning Gorilla Glass SR+ panel to ensure durability, scratch resistance, touch sensitivity and visual clarity.
The Leap Ware boasts of an IPX73 water resistance rating, which means it can endure unexpected heavy rainfalls. A built-in LED light that easily activates with a press of a button is also included – great for late night jogging or front door unlocking after happy hour. The watch bands are switchable and come in light brown or navy blue, but the unit itself is compatible with any 0.7-inch band the user prefers.
Acer’s smartwatch can be paired with Android or iOS devices using the Liquid Life app, which not only allows users to see who’s reaching out via call or text, but likewise offers the ability to set daily fitness goals with alerts to coach them. What’s more, entire exercise sessions can be recorded in the app, and an avatar is also provided to give users a progress snapshot of pre-set goals.
“As an added incentive, users can soon earn Power Coins through a number of activities like running for a number of consecutive days, biking for a certain distance and more,” Acer said. “Best of all, the smartwatch can motivate users by encouraging some friendly competition with others to see who can collect the most Power Coins. This gamification adds a unique motivational bonus, with the Power Coins being redeemable in the Liquid Life Market for various items, rewards and potential discounts.”
The Acer Leap Ware fitness smartwatch will be available to purchase in North America in July starting at US$139, in Taiwan in August starting at NT$4,990 and in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) sometime in the third quarter starting at €139. Official Australian pricing and availability have yet to be announced so stay connected with International Business Times for updates.
