Acer Predator 21 X specs, price and release details: The Bugatti Veyron of gaming laptops
Acer has launched another mind-blowing gaming computer at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES 2017) in Las Vegas. The new Predator 21 X, the world’s first ever curved gaming laptop, furnishes an absurd 21-inch IPS display and carries a staggering US$9,000 (AU$12,350) price tag. Welcome to 2017, folks.
The Acer Predator 21 X is downright the most outrageous gaming laptop there is, both in features and price. It weighs 7.7 kilograms (or 17 pounds) due to its heavyweight specs that include an overclockable 7th generation Intel Core Kaby Lake i7-7820HK processor with 64 GB of DDR4-2400 RAM, an SD card reader, one HDMI port, two DisplayPorts, two Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 video cards, two power supplies, five internal fans, nine heat pipes, four speakers, two subwoofers and a mechanical keyboard that makes use of Cherry MX switches and RGB LED-infused keys. The ridiculous 21-inch 2000R curved display comes with NVIDIA G-Sync and features an aspect ratio of 21:9, a 2560 x 1080 pixel resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz.
The Predator 21 X also has a touchpad that can transform into a numeric keypad. According to Gizmodo, the mechanical monster can be tweaked with up to four 512 GB SSDs in a RAID 0 configuration, which should allow apps to load straightaway from the get-go. It also has Tobii eye-tracking technology and is, of course, VR-ready.
Acer’s new gaming laptop looks spectacularly otherworldly, like something straight out of a “Transformers” movie. It’s the Bugatti Veyron of portable personal computers, if one considers 17 pounds portable. It’s certainly not for everyone, feature-wise and budget-wise.
With that said, anyone with an extra 12 grand to spare can never go wrong with the Predator 21 X. It is way too over-the-top to ignore. As Acer announced, the Predator 21 X is set to go on sale in February.
