Agar.io, Fallout 4, Mortal Kombat X in Google's most searched games in 2015
What games made it to Google's popularity list?
2015 has seen a lot of good video games. To cap the year for gamers, Google has recently dished its gaming search trends via the “Year in Search” list.
Google analyses its search trends according to user queries. Among the game titles that ranked well in Google's popularity ranking included “Agar.io,” “Fallout 4,” “Call of Duty: Black Ops III,” “Mortal Kombat X,” “Star Wars Battlefront” and other major titles such as “Pokemon GO,” “Madden” and “Bloodborne.” There are titles expected to be included, but there are also those that may come as a surprise even to some gaming fans. Here are the most searched for game of 2015, according to Google.
Agar.io - In 2015, action game “Agar.io” is at the first position in the list of the most popular queries for video games. It is pretty surprising that many people have never heard of this game. Such a big outcome was not expected from a really simple-looking video game that lets players kill virtual viruses by throwing masses. In “Agar.io” everything, including players, enemies and ammo, appear in circular shapes. As a highly popular mobile game, “Agar.io” is the most searched game of 2015 according to Google Trend List. This is probably the first time that the most popular game of the year is something that doesn’t boast a lot of features, high-end graphics and complex lore.
Fallout 4 - “Fallout 4” was released only in November this year, but it had been widely anticipated. According to reports, “Fallout 4” is one of the fastest selling titles of the year. “Fallout 4” has sold over two million units on PC alone in just 10 days. MCVUK reported that “Fallout 4” came back on top of Steam's weekly top ten sellers’ chart last week.
“Fallout 4” was not among the most talked about in the industry before E3 in June 2014 when Bethesda surprised the fans with the launch date announcement. The news filled the Internet with discussions, updates and information from people in the niche.
Mortal Kombat X - Pushing gruesome and gore to its limits, “Mortal Kombat X” has captivated fans of the franchise yet again with its latest installment to secure the third position on Google’s most trending games list. Developed by NetherRealm Studios, “Mortal Kombat X” is a game that portrays intense action with a strong touch of violence. GameRant reported that The strong introduction of eSport events made it clear that the game would be one of the leading the fighting games. According to the recent reports, Kombat Pack 2 DLC for the game is coming in 2016.“
Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 - The promise of the addition of character customisation in the story mode, four-player co-op and the zombie mode kept fans busy on Google. The developer also kept the promise of bringing new weapons, gears and Black Market items for “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.” The search queries regarding these announcements positioned “Call of Duty: Black Ops 3” as fourth most searched up game of the year.
Star Wars: Battlefront - The next entry, “Star Wars: Battlefront” that sparked debates among fans and hardcore gamers, has managed to be at the fifth position in Google’s most searched for games of 2015. Many reviews suggested that the game is not up to the mark a PC Gamer review suggests that players don’t get much for what they pay.
It’s important to note that since Google only counts its own search results in Google Trends, countries that tend to use other search engines -- e.g. Russia, China, South Korea, and Japan -- may not be as well-represented in the Year In Search as the countries where Google dominates.
