Alleged Specs Of First Android Powered Nokia C1 Smartphone Surface After Microsoft Acquisition
Nokia had launched the Nokia N1 tablet in November this year and now the rumour mill is claiming that the Finnish tech firm is working on an Android OS powered smartphone called the Nokia C1. NDTV claims that if the firm releases the handset with the Nokia brand name, it would end up violating the Microsoft acquisition contract that expires in 2016. GSMArena claims that rumoured Nokia C1 is nothing but a concept handset.
The leaked images of Nokia C1 concept phone that surfaced overnight and published on various tech sites indicated that Finnish company is currently building the Nokia C1 handset. NDTV states citing Techweb, the original source, that the handset would come onboard with a customized edition of Android 5.0 Lollipop OS coupled with the Nokia Z launcher.
The rumoured specifications sheet that has cropped up states that the Nokia C1 would house a 5-inch display screen and it will be powered by an Intel chipset that will accompany 2 GB of RAM. The internal storage of the concept device has been reported as 32 GB. It features an 8 MP shooter at the rear and a 5 MP front-facing camera.
NDTV states that after Microsoft took over the mobile devices division of Nokia in April this year, the Finnish firm which retains the brand name is left network and navigation services division. The acquisition deal prohibits Nokia from using the brand name on its handsets until 2016, states PhoneArena. However, there is no restriction on the company to use its name on other types of mobile devices. PhoneArena adds that as soon as the contract expires in 2016, Nokia may start rolling out smartphones with its own brand name.
After the acquisition, Nokia has rolled out only two consumer products namely, the Android OS powered N1 tablet and the Z launcher. At the beginning of this month, Nokia had declared that it will not be developing the Here maps app for Windows Phone but rather focus on developing it for iOS and Android. As far as the Window Phone edition of Here maps, it will be developed by Microsoft.
