Cyber Monday's here, and the holiday season's starting. Looking for so-called "superphones" in stores or on-line?

Sure, Apple's iPhone 4S already arrived in most places around the globe. And the Galaxy S 2, the device with a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED PenTile display co-developed by Google Inc. and Samsung Electronics, is set to hit the U.S. in December, after a launch in Europe early this month. LG is also expected to unveil next month in New York the LG Nitro HD, the Android 4.5-inch phone called LG Optimus LTE in other countries. There's also a quad-core tablet, the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer Prime from ASUS, which is already available for pre-orders.

But you won't see smartphones with powerful quad-core chips, an Apple iPhone with a 4-inch display and NFC chips, or new smartphone brands from Facebook, Amazon, and Panasonic, during this year's holiday season.

Expect more smartphone leaks in the months to come as device-makers like Apple Inc. are already gearing up for a smartphone season. Tech sites, citing anonymous sources, have already released rumored specs of upcoming amazing phones, but note the design and specs could change as these devices have yet be officially unveiled.

Rumor mills actually help device-maker gain publicity and generate hype. But the hype generated by these rumors could hurt sales of devices currently in shelves and delayed launches could be counterproductive -- Apple, for example, saw softening sales of the iPhone 4 in its Sept. 30 quarter as consumers postponed smartphone purchases in light of rumors that an iPhone 5 release was imminent.
