Amazon.com Prime members will now be able to stream FOX movies and TV series, as the online shopping giant announced Monday that it has made a deal with FOX in a bid to significantly increase, if not double, its number of available titles to 11,000 by this Fall, the New York Times reports.

This developed two days before Amazon is expected to launch one of two Kindle tablets to rival Apple's iPad.

Industry observers are saying Amazon is progressively revealing its new offerings to build up excitement for the launch of its tablet, some details of which were leaked out via suppliers and the press. The Kindle tablet is expected to have a 7-inch touch screen and run Amazon's own version of Android.

Techcrunch has earlier reported that the new Kindle will cost $250.

Last week, Amazon made its own Android software store available internationally. Amazon is expected to run its own apps store and maintain its own content purchasing system.

With its FOX deal, Amazon stands media-ready to compete with iPad's apps like Netflix, Crackle, and Hulu+.

FOX titles available to Prime members will include popular films including "Speed," "Mrs. Doubtfire," and "Doctor Dolittle." As for FOX TV series, Prime members will be able to enjoy "24" and "The X-Files" among others. Amazon has 100,000 non-Prime titles in its offerings. Amazon Prime subscribers pay $79 per year for streaming content.

Industry analysts are looking forward to Amazon's tablet launch, as it could potentially pose a serious challenge against the iPad, which has enjoyed market domination since its introduction.
