Amazon Fire Phone vs. Google Nexus 5: Price and Specs Comparison in Australia
E-commerce site Amazon recently revealed the Amazon Fire Phone, its first venture into the smartphone market . Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos stated the Amazon Fire Phone is optimised for one-handed use. But how does Amazon Fire Phone fare against Google's Nexus 5?
Display
Even with the cheaper cost, Google Nexus 5 is a few notches above Amazon Fire Phone when it comes to display. Google Nexus 5 has a 4.95-inch display with a screen resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. Meanwhile, Digital Trends mentioned Amazon Fire Phone only has 4.7-inch high-quality LCD display, with a screen resolution of 1,280 x 720.
Processors and Operating Systems
Both smartphones run on Qualcomm Snapdragon processors but with slightly different specs and totally different operating systems. The same sources cited above mentioned the Amazon Fire Phone has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2 GHz running on Fire OS 3.5. Meanwhile, Google Nexus 5 has Qualcomm MSM8974 Snapdragon 800 quad-core Krait 400 processor clocked at 2.3 GHz. The smartphone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat and can be upgradable to 4.4.4 KitKat.
Camera
When it comes to camera, Amazon Fire Phone has better specs compared with Google Nexus 5. The same source above-mentioned stated Amazon Fire Phone has only 13-MP camera with f/2.0 lens with optical image stabilisation. It also features panorama, burst and action shots and there is unlimited photo storage.
On the other hand, Google Nexus 5 only has 8-MP rear-facing camera and a 1.3-MP front-facing camera. It features geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, photo sphere and dual recording.
Memory
Both Amazon Fire Phone and Google Nexus 5 have 2 GB RAM. However, Amazon Fire Phone has bigger internal memory of either 32 or 64 GB. It also has an added 5 GB of extra free space via the Amazon Cloud Drive. Meanwhile, Google Nexus 5 only has either 16 or 32 GB of internal memory.
Battery
Amazon Fire Phone's battery is also has a few notches better than the Google Nexus 5. Digital Trends stated that Amazon Fire Phone has 2,400 mAh battery which is capable of up to 11 hours during video playback and 22 hours of talk time. Meanwhile, Google Nexus 5 only has Li-Po 2,300 mAh battery which is capable only of up to 17 hours talk time.
Others Specs
According to Digital Trends, those who are planning to buy the Amazon Fire Phone can choose from 33 million titles of music, movies and TV shows with the included12-month membership to its prime service. The smartphone's camera also scans for books, DVDs, phone numbers, QR codes, CDs, games and all other kinds of media. Then, it searches for the product in the Amazon database and finds a version that users can buy from the online shopping Web site. There is also a 3-D effect specs included which allows users to view any image, map or Web content in a different way.
Meanwhile, Google Nexus 5 has wireless charging capability with image, video and document editor. It also has voice memo/dial/commands and predictive text input. It also comes with Google Search, Maps, Gmail, YouTube, Calendar, Google Talk and Picasa.
Price
According to Know Your Mobile, Google Nexus 5 costs about AU$542 which is over a hundred dollars cheaper compared with Amazon Fire Phone. Time Magazine mentioned that Amazon Fire Phone costs AU$690 with a no contract plan at AT&T.
