Amazon recently rolled out its first attempt with the smartphone through the Amazon Fire Phone. According to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, the Amazon Fire Phone is optimized for one handed use. With the impressive specs that the Amazon Fire Phone carry, the company aimed to compete with the other existing smart phones in the market. So how does Amazon Fire Phone fare with Samsung Galaxy S5?

Price

According to Time Magazine, Amazon Fire Phone costs US$649 with a no contract plan at AT&T. This translates to $690 in Australia. Meanwhile, Whistleout.com stated that Samsung Galaxy S5 is priced at AU$1,350 for the $30 plan at Vodafone.

Display

According to Digital Trends, Amazon Fire Phone sports a 4.7-inch high quality LCD display, with a screen resolution of 1280 x 720 and an image density of 315 pixels per inches (ppi). Meanwhile, Samsung has a slightly bigger screen size and better display. Based on the Samsung Web site, Samsung Galaxy S5 has a 5.1-inch super AMOLED screen with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels with an image density of 432 ppi.

Processors

In terms of processors, both smart phones have Qualcomm Snapdragon and Adreno 330 GPU with a slightly different specs. Digital Trends mentioned that Amazon Fire Phone comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.2GHz. While Samsung Web site stated that Samsung Galaxy S5 has Qualcomm MSM8974AC Snapdragon 801 processor clocked at 2.5GHz.

Operating Systems

The operating systems of the two smart phones are totally different. The same site above-cited mentioned that Amazon Fire Phone runs on Fire OS 3.5.0 while Samsung Galaxy S5 runs on Android 4.4.2 Kitkat.

Camera

In terms of camera, Amazon Fire Phone has 13-megapixel camera with f/2.0 lens with optical image stabilization. It also features panorama, burst, and action shots plus there is unlimited photo storage. Meanwhile, the camera in Samsung Galaxy S5 is a few notches better with a 16-megapixel rear facing camera and 2-megapixel front facing camera. It also features dual shot, simultaneous high quality video and image recording, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, and image stabilization.

Memory

Both Amazon Fire Phone and Samsung Galaxy S5 have 2GB RAM and an internal memory of either 32 GB or 64GB. However, Amazon Fire Phone has an added 5GB of extra free space via the Amazon Cloud Drive.

Other Specs

Amazon Fire Phone comes with 12-month membership to its prime service wherein users can choose from 33 million titles of music, movies, and TV shows. The camera also scans for books, DVDs, phone numbers, QR codes, CDs, games, and all other kinds of media. The smart phone then searches for the product in the Amazon database and finds a version that users can buy from the Amazon online shopping Web site. It also has 3D effect allowing users to view any image, map or Web content in a different way.

On the other hand, Samsung Galaxy S5 have dust-resistant and water-resistant capability. It is also preloaded with Google apps like Google Hangouts, Google Chrome, Google Play and others. There is also a heart rate monitor and a personalized fitness tracker with the device. There is also a make, tap, and go payment feature which allows users to make cashless payments; plus it comes with a fingerprint scanner.
