Both recently introduced and upcoming smartphones show that 3D is around the corner - perhaps sooner than most people expected. Amazon is already rumored to be working on a mobile phone that allows 3D images without the glasses.

But this is not the first case of three-dimensional imaging to be featured on a smartphone. The previous year and these past few months already showed a number of devices showcasing this. There are also applications available on app stores allowing users to convert their photo into their 3D counterparts.

Slowly, the smartphone manufacturers are also exploring this capability. After all, the success of 3D blockbuster movies and game sets show how much potential this utility has.
