Amazon Kindle Fire HDX vs Apple iPad 4 Specs Comparison
Amazon recently unveiled the Kindle Fire HDX. The device has made quite some waves in the tech community. For those who are considering buying, here is a comparison between the device and the Apple iPad 4.
Design and Display:
The Amazon Kindle Fire HDX has a sleeker design and comes with 231 x 158 x 7.8 mm dimensions; it weighs 374 grams. It has an 8.9 inch display with IPS LCD capacitive touch screen, rendering 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution.
The Apple iPad 4 is slightly bigger and comes with 241.2 x 185.7 x 9.4 mm dimensions; it weighs 662 grams. It has a 9.7 inch screen with LED-backlit IPS LCD, capacitive touch screen, rendering 1536 x 2048 pixel resolution.
Hardware and Operating System:
The Kindle Fire HDX comes with a Quad-core 2.2 GHz Krait 400 processor, with Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset. It comes in 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants; there is no Micro SD card slot for additional memory.
The Kindle Fire HDX runs on the Android platform and runs on a newly introduced Fire OS 3.0 "Mojito" operating system. It has a better RAM, which is 2 GB.
The iPad 4 comes with a Dual-core 1.4 GHz processor, with Apple A6X chipset. It comes in 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB variants; there is no Micro SD card slot for additional memory.
The iPad 4 runs on the iOS 6, which can be upgraded to the 6.1.3 version or the recently launched iOS 7. The RAM on the device is 1 GB.
Camera:
The Kindle Fire HDX comes with an 8 MP primary camera with features like autofocus and LED flash. The secondary camera is a HD camera; more details will be available before the device is released commercially.
The iPad 4 comes with a 5 MP primary camera with features like autofocus and face detection. The secondary camera on the device is 1.2 MP.
Price:
The Kindle Fire HDX will be available for commercial purchase in the U.S from November 7, 2013. It will be priced at $379 for the U.S market. The device is not yet available in Australia. The iPad 4 16 GB with Wi-Fi is priced around AU$499.95.
