Get ready for a better reading experience. Amazon’s “Bookerly” font is now available for more Kindles.

Amazon designed a brand new font “Bookerly,” keeping the e-readers in mind. It was chiefly developed to replace Caecilia. This move was considered to be a huge leap towards better typography.

Caecilia has been the default font on the entire line of Kindles for the last four years. The more spacious “Bookerly” debuted with the 2015 Kindle Paperwhite. As a part of the latest software update, the “Bookerly” font has been rolled out to the remaining line of Kindles by Amazon. So now users can enjoy the font in Kindle Voyage, Kindle Touch, Kindle 7th gen and previous-gen Kindle Paperwhites.

In addition to the Bookerly font, the update comes with a better Smart Lookup that makes it easier to access tools for highlighting, creating and sharing notes, among others. The update also improves books’ layouts and typography, including their justification, spacing, kerning and footnotes. The update should download automatically once the user connects the Kindle to the Internet. If not, they can check Amazon’s website to confirm if their Kindle is getting the update.

Bookerly is a serif style of font that has been custom-made by Amazon to be readable across as many different types of screens as possible. Amazon’s internal tests reveal that reading the Kindle on Bookerly font is about 2% easier on the eye. Considering the millions of Kindle users and billions of pages of e-reading this figure seems to be commendable. In May, Amazon introduced the “Bookerly” font for iPad and iPhone. The new Kindle app for iOS justifies text almost like print typesetting. Even on maximum font size, the new Kindle app maintains the spacing between words, intelligently hyphenate words and spread them between lines perfectly.
