'American Horror Story' Update: Jessica Lange May Return As She Loves Working With Ryan Murphy
Jessica Lange played pivotal roles in all the four seasons of “American Horror Story.” She was the driving force of all the previous seasons. At PaleyFest this year, Lange killed all the speculations about her return to FX’s horror anthology series for another season, saying “I’m done.” The recent interview of the veteran actress’, however, indicates that she is not yet done with “American Horror Story.”
“If Ryan [Murphy, co-creator of ‘American Horror Story’] came to me and said, ‘Would you want to do a small character for a couple episodes?’ I would absolutely say yes if I liked it,” Lange told The Wrap, adding that it was a “great collaboration” over four years and she would love to keep working with Murphy.
Meanwhile, Murphy told Deadline.com that Lange wanted some time off. He also said if he could come up with a great character and something extraordinary for her, she will do it. He said, “… she’s told me that, if you have something great after I sort of get my rest then let’s keep talking, so I’ll do that.”
Murphy and Lange are collaborating once again, though not for a television series. Lange is starring in the new stage production of “Long Day’s Journey into Night.” Murphy is producing this Eugene O’ Neill’s play. Lange is playing Mary Throne, the “morphine-addled matriarch” character that she played way back in 2000 at West End in London.
The production on “American Horror Story” Season 5, subtitled “Hotel,” is set to begin in July. The new season features Lady Gaga, Matt Bomer, Sarah Paulson, Kathy Bates, Angela Bassett, Finn Wittrock, Wes Bentley, Denis O’Hare, Evan Peters, Chloe Sevigny, Max Greenfield and Cheyenne Jackson. Murphy recently confirmed Emma Roberts’ appearance in a couple of episodes at the end. Paulson and Peters are set to play absolute evil characters while Bates will be seen running the hotel. And Lady Gaga is likely to have a romantic triangle with Bomer and Wittrock.
Murphy has revealed that “American Horror Story-Hotel” is much more dark compared to previous seasons, and it is more horror-based. The new season is expected to premiere sometime in October.
