Amy Adams has been cast for the coveted role of Lois Lane in the upcoming ‘Superman’ series. The spokesman for the actress said that Superman director, Zack Snyder made the announcement in a statement sent to Access Hollywood.

"Second only to 'Superman' himself, the question of who will play Lois Lane is arguably what fans have been most curious about," Snyder was quoted as saying by Access Hollywood.

He added, "So we are excited to announce the casting of Amy Adams, one of the most versatile and respected actresses in films today.

Snyder also expressed confidence that Adams is the best candidate for the job, describing the 'Drop Dead Gorgeous' star in so many words.

“Amy has the talent to capture all of the qualities we love about Lois: smart, tough, funny, warm, ambitious and, of course, beautiful," Snyder said of actress Amy Adams.

Adams is joining A-list actors Kevin Costner and Diane Lane who play as the adoptive parents of 'Superman' now featuring British actor, Henry Cavill.

No official title has been announced for the film’s latest series but the tentatively titled, "Superman: Man of Steel," film expected to hit theaters in December 2012.

The 36-year old Adams has already appeared in a number of films and has been repeatedly praised for many of her works. The actress has also received nominations for highly coveted Academy Awards for her outstanding performances in “The Fighter”.

She has also appeared in ‘The Wedding Date’ (2005); ‘The Last Run’ (2004); ‘Catch Me If You Can’ (2002); ‘Serving Sara’ (2004); ‘Drop Dead Gorgeous’ (1999) and some more.
