Amy Winehouse's Best and Worst Moments [VIDEOS]
According to many, the singer personified the best and the worst in the music industry. Here are the videos to support this belief.
The vocal phenomenon was found dead in her London home on July 23 due to reasons associated with narcotics and alcohol abuse. Dead at age 27, Winehouse is the latest addition to the "27 Club", a pool of musicians who all similarly battled drug addiction and died at the age of 27. According to sources, Amy Winehouse's much-awaited follow up to 2006's Back to Black will be released posthumously, but the decision lies solely on the singer's parents.
Here are some of the most unforgettable performances and videos of the late singer throughout her short career:
"Rehab" music video (2006)
This single made Amy Winehouse a force to be reckoned with in the music industry. Although sung in provocative lyrics "they tried to make me go to rehab, I said no, no, no", fans and charts opened their arms to this hit. "Rehab", taken from her album "Back to Black", won the singer 5 Grammy awards in 2008, including the prestigious Record of the Year and Song of the Year acclaims.
Amy performs "I'm No Good" live (2008)
In this video, the singer shows the extremity of her vocal range, a talent that spiked her popularity in 2006 with the record "Back to Black". Unlike her recent performances where Winehouse is constantly seen holding a can of beer or smoking cigarettes, this video features and concentrates on her sole talent of singing jazz notes mixed with Motown flair. This video also clearly suggests the reason why critics never stopped applauding her despite her troubled relationship with narcotics and alcohol.
Amy sings "Teach Me Tonight" with Jool's Holland Rhythm and Blues orchestra
This performance taken out of the phenomenal BBC music variety show "Later...With Jool's Holland", was recorded back when the singer was still promoting her "Frank" album. The debut record turned platinum in 2004, and quickly gave Winehouse her "jazz" and "Motown" credibility. Winehouse gave this Dinah Washington original a modern and contemporary twist with her sassy vocals and sensual under tones. Used to Frank Sinatra records playing around the house, young Amy started singing at the age of 4 and was encouraged by her grandmother to enroll in Sylvia Young Theatre School.
Amy drunkenly performs "Valerie" onstage in Belgrade, Serbia (June, 2011)
In this clip from her ill-fated performance in Belgrade, Serbia, Amy Winehouse looked obviously intoxicated and under the influence. Before the crowd of 20,000 fans booed the singer off the stage, Winehouse kept on forgetting the words of the song and missing her marks. Almost too sad to watch, the singer sought the help of a back-up singer on the second verse. The Serbian media has dubbed the performance as "the worst concert" to ever hit their nation. Sadly, this was also the last live performance of the singer.
Serbian crowd boos Amy off the stage, (June, 2011)
At the beginning of this video, the fans are already agitated as the singer preps to sing "Back to Black", the title track of her successful 2006 record. Acting hazy and dazed, the singer reacts calmly as the booing gets louder, even smirking off a back-up singer. Ultimately, the singer couldn't fight off her drunken state and goes off-key, mumbling lyrics and appearing teary-eyed. Some comments from YouTube users say "I can see the sadness in her eyes. It makes me sad to watch this. I think she had already given up. I can't imagine what her life was like. May you rest now Amy, RIP."
