Andrew Garfield Recast As Peter Parker In 'The Amazing Spider-Man' 'Didn't Make Sense,' Says Movie Insider
Andrew Garfield’s future in “The Amazing Spider-Man” has been the topic of media speculations recently, ever since Sony’s servers were hacked and revealed the actor’s involvement has been reconsidered by the studio’s higher executives. Now that he’s confirmed not to reprise his role as the web slinger, another source came out and claimed there’s actually no sense bringing him back to the movie.
According to The Daily Beast, a source has confirmed with them that Andrew Garfield will not be reprising his role as Peter Parker in any of Sony and Marvel’s future “Spider-Man” films. Apparently, according to the source Garfield has had discussions with the studio about reprising his role in Sony and Marvel’s “Spider-Man” movies. The actor was supposedly interested in joining Marvel’s Cinematic Universe as the web slinger. “But ultimately it didn’t make sense to keep him for what will be a new chapter for Spider-Man,” the source said.
This new chapter for Spider-Man is actually the studio’s decision to recast a younger actor to portray the character. According to Comicbookmovie, Marvel wanted to have a high school age Peter Parker. Base on the age alone, 32-year-old Andrew Garfield no longer fits the description.
Sony’s plans to work together with Marvel to bring “The Amazing Spider-Man” to the MCU reportedly involve the character being introduced to the Avengers first before the reboot. Spider-Man is said to make a cameo in the third “Captain America” film, according to a statement revealed from the hacked email Michael De Luca, co-president of production for Columbia Pictures, sent to Sony co-chairman Amy Pascal. July 28, 2017 marks the reboot of “The Amazing Spider-Man” film under the MCU after his rumoured introduction in “Captain America 3.”
Andrew Garfield may be out as Peter Parker and not joining Marvel’s Cinematic Universe, but Kevin Feige couldn’t be happier to team up with Sony to work on the film. “I am thrilled to team with my friends at Sony Pictures along with Amy Pascal to produce the next Spider-Man movie,” he said. He revealed he and his team at Marvel has been waiting for years to work on the film and now he only hopes to give the reboot the same creative continuity and authenticity fans demand from the MCU.
