Android 4.4 KitKat 2014 Rollouts: 5 HTC Phones, LG G2 And G Pad, 8 From Motorola, 9 Sony Xperia And 20 Samsung Galaxy
Android 4.4 KitKat update isn't over yet. There are still dozens of compatible devices that need upgrading. Here are HTC, LG, Motorola, Sony and Samsung expanded upgrade plans for 2014 with Android 4.4 firmware.
HTC Smartphones
HTC One Sense variant is getting an Android 4.4 KitKat by January 2014 and this will be followed by HTC One Maxx and Mini. Droid DNA has also been confirmed to receive the latest Android OS with a possibility of giving Butterfly S to get it. There is no exact confirmation when HTC One Maxx and Mini will be getting the upgrade but the Canadian network carrier Rogers claim to bring an update for HTC One Mini. HTC One Sense variant is currently locked with recently pushed Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.
LG Devices
LG G2 and G Pad 8.3 are eligible on getting Android 4.4 KitKat scheduled in 2014. French network carrier SFR confirmed Android 4.4 firmware by late January while a Canadian network provider said KitKat version is set for late Q1 next year around March. Court Elliot of LG Canada did confirm the upcoming Android 4.4 update for LG G2 and it will be offered to all network carriers. But he didn't say anything about exact dates or simultaneous rollout from network providers.
G Pad 8.3 is also expected to receive Android 4.4 with Optimus UI next year since the Vanilla version is already out. Android 4.4.2 KOT49H build is downloadable via Over-the-Air and will consume 52 MB. It contains the standard performance enhancements, system stability and bug fixes for G Pad.
Motorola Droids
Aside from Moto X and G, Motorola is going to push Android 4.4 KitKat update for more Moto smartphones. The company confirmed 10 different smartphones eligible for the new OS version from different network carriers. Verizon will push an update to Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx, Droid Mini, Droid RAZR HD, Droid RAZR Maxx HD and Droid RAZR M.
Developer's Edition of RAZR HD and M are also receiving Android 4.4 KitKat next year similar with ATRIX HD and Electrify M from AT&T and U.S. Cellular, respectively.
Sony Xperia
Sony confirmed future upgrade plans with Android 4.4 KitKat on Xperia Z series, including Z1, Z Ultra, Z, ZL/ZR and Tablet Z. Several mid-range Xperia smartphones are also confirmed to receive the latest OS versions such as SP, T/TX and V.
Xperia Z series owners are presently expecting Android 4.3 Jelly Bean before 2013 ends that will bring several new apps, custom theme and Project Butter. However, the update for mid-range Xperia smartphones hasn't rolled out yet.
Samsung Galaxy
Around 20 Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets are expected to get Android 4.4 KitKat in 2014. Galaxy S4 and Note 3 are first to receive the latest OS and may feature the newest TouchWiz UI around January. It will be followed by Galaxy S3 and Note 2 with possibility on getting the same features on S4 and Note 3 by March to April next year.
Samsung is also considering the upgrading of several mid-range smartphones such as Galaxy S4 and S3 Minis, Galaxy Ace 2 and 3, Galaxy S Advance, Galaxy Cores, Galaxy Fame and Galaxy Fresh with Android 4.4. Galaxy Mega 5.8 and 6.3 are both on the table to receive it based on a leaked internal Knox report.
Galaxy Tab 3 series and Galaxy Note 8.0 and 10.1 2014 are expected to get updates by next year during smartphone upgrades. Samsung hasn't released any decisions yet regarding these tablets but the devices are eligible to receive it.
Unfortunately, Galaxy S2 and Note 1 are excluded due to the expiration of 18-month update period followed by manufacturers.
