Sony Xperia Go, Sola, P and U can now run Android 4.4 KitKat via CyanogenMod 11 unofficial build custom ROM. Developers are now polishing the firmware to fix certain issues but progress is coming really quickly.

Android 4.4 KitKat via CyanogenMod 11

Sony announced Android 4.3 and Android 4.4 upgrade plans to selected Xperia devices but Xperia Go, Sola, P and U are not included to the confirmed list by the company getting any major upgrades soon.

XDA developer members munjeni, percy_g2 and Gava97 created unofficial ports of CyanogenMod 11 custom ROM running Android 4.4 KitKat for the four Xperia smartphones excluded from the announced list of Sony.

It seems like that unofficial CyanogenMod 11 build ported to Xperia Go, Sola, P and U are running fine with daily tasks except on certain functionalities such as Bluetooth. The developers are polishing some issues which aren't working on the custom ROM but progress is coming very quickly.

It is expected that CyanogenMod 11 for the four Xperia smartphones will become stable as early as December or January 2014.

Sony's Current Busy Schedule

Android 4.3 Jelly Bean is the first major upgrade coming this December 2013 among selected Sony Xperia smartphones. Sony Mobile confirmed the plans for software updates to ten Xperia devices which include:

1. Xperia Z1

2. Xperia Z Ultra

3. Xperia Z

4. Xperia ZL

5. Xperia ZR

6. Xperia Tablet Z

7. Xperia SP

8. Xperia T

9. Xperia TX

10. Xperia V

Some lower-end Xperia smartphones such as Xperia L, M and C didn't make the list and it is not certain if Sony has any future upgrade plans for the three. Xperia Go, Sola, P and U are also excluded from the Android 4.3 upgrade.

Android 4.4 KitKat from Sony is confirmed to arrive on Xperia Z1, Z Ultra, Z1, Xperia ZL/ZR and Tablet Z. Xperia SP made a surprising entry when the software update Web page revealed the Android 4.4 future upgrade soon.

Sony may release the latest Android version in 2014 but no official schedule when exactly it is going to be pushed out worldwide.
