Android 4.4 KitKat Coming to Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 by March or April 2014
Samsung Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2 are tipped to receive an official Android 4.4 KitKat after Galaxy S4 and Note 3. A leaked document revealed the time frame of the upcoming firmware for 2014.
Android 4.4 KitKat for Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note 2
Owners of Galaxy S3 and Note 2 may hold hope for an upcoming Android 4.4 KitKat update from Samsung. According to the leaked document obtained by Sam Mobile from insiders, an official Android 4.4 firmware is coming to Galaxy S3 and Note 2 schedule on March to April 2014.
In addition to the noted timeframe, model numbers are also included and it seems like Galaxy GT-I9300 and Galaxy Note 2 SM-N7100 are getting the new firmware firsthand alongside with Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 and Note 3 SM-N900 scheduled on January 2014.
Sam Mobile was also told by their insiders that Android 4.4 firmware is currently under testing phase for Galaxy Note 3 which could mean Galaxy S4's new software is already finished and simply waiting for the schedule.
Moreover, Galaxy S4's Google Play edition kernel source code has been found at its Open Source Release Centre and something easy to port by kernel developers to the Galaxy S4 international LTE variant due to similarity in hardware components.
Android 4.3 Jelly Bean Under Pressure
Official Android 4.3 Jelly Bean released for Galaxy S3 goes under pressure due to major bugs plaguing owners in the United Kingdom. Bugs include random freezes, wake up lags, huge battery drain and poor RAM management.
United States network carriers are already pushing out Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and so far okay with the Galaxy S3 U.S. variant. It is expected that Samsung U.K. will push an update fix for the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean firmware within the region soon.
Effects of Android 4.4 KitKat
Google's newest Android OS version can help Samsung's TouchWiz UI and services in various ways such as better RAM management, improved battery standby time, more accurate touch response and smoother feeling compared with Android Jelly Bean version.
Some expectations are also out like fix of major bugs found in Android 4.3 for United Kingdom users and easy solutions with the Regional Lock security implemented by Samsung.
Android 4.4 KitKat before Samsung Galaxy S5
Samsung may be using the timeframe of Android 4.4 KitKat for the announcement of Samsung Galaxy S5 in 2014 which will run majority of the company's flagship devices.
Rumours point out that Galaxy S5 will appear at CES 2014 but no one can tell for sure if it is going to become available by early 2014 or later on March or April.
Samsung taking part on Android 4.4 KitKat will surely boost sales by upgrading all of their former and latest flagship devices. Once Samsung pushes the next-generation firmware, HTC and Sony may encounter another round of battle against the South Korean tech giant.
