Touchless Controls go beyond Moto X and into Nexus 5. Google's announcement of the Android 4.4 KitKat update also meant seeing the flagship Nexus 5 device. The operating system update do not just feature design tweaks but there are also considerable changes to Search and Now Features.

Waking Up Nexus 5

Barking commands at the mobile handset to wake it up is now possible. Android 4.4 KitKat also now allows users have some sort of dialogue with their handsets. This is even more beneficial when instructing Now to look for contacts based on their first name.

For example, when a user instructs the device to text someone by their first name, this may prompt the handset to ask which specific person on the contacts list of there are more than two people with the same name. Simply put, Google wants to create smarter smartphone controls.

Now and Search

Being able to talk to the handset is just the beginning. According to Google, they made sure speech recognition improved by as much as 25%. Users can also access Now by swiping to the left. This feature is available on the Nexus 5 only as of the moment but may soon roll out to other devices. This removes the need to swipe the device from bottom upwards.

Now also includes a wide selection of "contextual cards." This is another strategy in boosting the efficiency of Google's digital assistant. The OS is now capable of display information based on the current activity of the user. People can now see TV updates they search recently or ticket listings they searched before.

Google Now can provide "deep links" to users based on the apps they have installed on the device. For example, searching for a recipe will not just provide link results but it can also provide similar search results like restaurants and apps. Whereas, the Search enhancements are only available for now in Nexus 5, these features should roll out for Android update for other devices.
