Roll out of Android 4.4 KitKat to Samsung devices has been on the news lately. The Korean tech giant has yet to complete the update for a range of Galaxy units. However, while the update has not been finished for the rest of the devices, Samsung Galaxy S4 users have been complaining about the update already.

Some of the reported problems include: lock screen, phone lag, battery drain and contact list sync. Here are some quick fixes for the mentioned problems:

  • Lock screen—A black lock screen is one of the most common problems among Samsung Galaxy S4 users. One quick fix is to remove the lock screen personal message. To do this, open settings > lockscreen > lock screen widgets > clock or personal message > clock.
  • Phone lag—Users reported experiencing very slow response following the update. The only way to fix the response time as of the moment is to do a factory reset of the device.
  • Battery drain—For a quick fix, turn off the device. Pull the battery out and wait for around 30 seconds before putting it back. If this does not work, download an app for calibrating the battery. One example is a Battery Calibration. If this does not work, do a factory reset as a last resort.
  • Contact list sync—Users can try to turn off sync. Then users should remove their account and then try logging in back again. Once users are logged in, they can turn on sync again.

According to recent reports, Samsung may soon be rolling out Android 4.4 KitKat updates including Android 4.4.2 update to international versions of the Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy Grand 2 Duos and Galaxy Note 2. When will the roll out hit specific regions?

Motoring Crunch cites a report by SamMobile, where a Samsung insider leaked a document revealing the update schedule for Android 4.4 KitKat and corresponding Samsung devices. The screenshot of the document showed Android 4.4 KitKat will arrive at several Samsung Galaxy handsets around April or May. Analysts believe the update roll out will start as soon as Samsung Galaxy S5 hit stores.

There are no real confirmations on whether the document is authentic or just fabricated. Recent reports indicate Samsung Poland did not include Samsung Galaxy S3 on its list of devices to receive KitKat. Other Samsung units in other regions have not confirmed or denied their Android KitKat Galaxy S3 roll out.
