Google is now talking about Android's new support for 64-bit processors to keep up with manufacturers. Samsung is developing 64-bit CPU for their future devices which are expected to run Android 4.4 KitKat. Is this the perfect match for the Samsung Galaxy S5 2014 best smartphone?

Android 4.4 KitKat Higher CPU Support

Android 4.4 KitKat OS update may support smartphones equipped with 64-bit processing chipsets. Intel and Google's Android team seems to be working together to allow 64-bit chipset equipped handsets to run Android OS. According to the ChristianPost, a recent presentation hinted the plan for future Android usage but was not specific which version will do so.

Based on the Web site of KitKat, Android 4.4 is supposed to support multi-core processors, but did not say if it includes 64-bit chipsets. Manufacturers are now adapting to the 64-bit chipsets for mobile devices which boasts more power and stability.

As of now, Google has no confirmation if the next-generation Android will support new chipsets for 2014. Features of Android KitKat include:

Google's upcoming Nexus 5 runs Android 4.4 KitKat, but the smartphone is equipped with quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 800, a 32-bit dual channel chipset.

Samsung's Upcoming 64-Bit Processors

Samsung's timing to develop new processors with 64-bit memory technology may be feasible with Android's upcoming changes to support higher chipsets. Google's senior vice president, Sundar Pichai, discussed the possibility of Android and Chrome operating systems to increase ecosystem presence which could be an indirect relation to the 64-bit chip support.

Samsung's upcoming 2014 flagship devices, Galaxy S5 and Galaxy Note 4, may deliver new 64-bit CPUs that feature ultra-fast processing power.

"Not in the shortest time. But yes, our next smartphones will have 64-bit processing functionality," Samsung's mobile business chief, Shin Jong-Kyun, said and quoted by Christian Post.

Shin Jong-Kyun also followed the Apple's iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C coverage which implies China's increased brand awareness with iOS devices.

"Samsung understands that Apple intends to boost its mobile business in China, as well as Japan, meaning we should try harder in these countries. Apple believes that it can boost its market share in China thanks to stronger brand awareness. However, with better pricing, a diversified product lineup and solid partnerships with local channels, Samsung plans to keep its current momentum in China. We have no reason to allow Apple to steal market share from us," a Samsung executive told Korea Times.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 is really coming in 2014, and the company is also planning to apply the new 64-bit chip to the Galaxy Note 4, next-generation Galaxy Note tab variant and Galaxy Tab 4.
