Samsung Galaxy S4 joins the likes of HTC One Google Play edition with the Android 4.4.2 KitKat update. The tech giant has just announced the roll out of the Android 4.4.2 update to Samsung Galaxy S 4 GPe. People can either download the update directly to their device or manually install it.

The update for the GT-I9505G is available via a 57.4 MB incremental OTA update. The update offers version KOT49H.S0001.131204. It came after Samsung released the kernel source and modules. These were released to the company's open source release center for the ML4 version.

While the rollout is staged, people can download the update early from Google's services. Recognized Contributor Danvdh also posted a mirror update at AndroidFileHost. For manual installation of updates before their OTA, the following instructions give a general idea on how to:

1. Head over to the download site or page of the update. Get the ROM or file for the Galaxy S4 devices. Copy the zip file to the root of the handset's internal storage. Disable the SIM PIN lock on the S4 device. It is important for users to disable the lock. There are high chances they get locked out from their device once they flash the KitKat ROM.

2. Reboot the Galaxy S4 handset into recovery mode. To do this, users can download the Quick boot application from Play Store. They can also switch the device off and press the Home, Power Keys and Volume Up controls simultaneously.

3. Depending on the type of recovery the user is using, they can go and activate the "factory reset/wipe data" option. For those using CWM recovery, they should find the reset option on the main screen. For TWRP, users should select the "Wipe" option. The slider at the bottom of the screen can be used to wipe the data partition.

4. Choose the Install option and go to /sdcard/0. Within the option, look for the ROM's zip file and choose "Reboot system."

The initial boot may take a few minutes. Given the Galaxy S4 goes into a boot loop, users must reboot the device. If the step did not work, repeat the outline instructions.
