Android 4.4.3, 4.5: 5 Major Bug Fixes for Android 4.4.2 Threatens Root Access and Custom ROMs
Android 4.5 is rumoured to run the upcoming Google Nexus 10 2014 made by Samsung. However, root apps may get a disadvantage after Android code changes, according to a developer. Whether 4.4.3 or 4.5, here are the advantages and disadvantages that could affect all Android KitKat devices soon.
Root Access Issues
Google made Android free and very flexible in contrast to iOS and Windows Phone OS. Since its inception, root access has been made quite easy to do and permitted, except for the warranty void users must face. However, that may all change after a commitment done to the codes.
According to the Chainfire, a developer of several root access app and utilities, upcoming Android version 4.4.3 or 4.5 may break many root apps soon after a recent commit to the Android code changes access to the said areas.
SuperSU, StickMount and others similar apps may begin to get troublesome once Google pushes the update that causes breakage and changes on the Android access codes.
"Android 4.5: there may be much breakage for root apps," according to Chainfire's official Google+ account.
The main issue is the recent commit to the AOSP master tree which prevents the "unconfined domain" from executing files located on the /data partition. In effect, many root apps will no longer work and could affect most root apps developed. Furthermore, any changes to root access ruling may prevent most users to easily install custom ROM, while it may take developers longer to develop one.
Thankfully, Chainfire revealed pointers and potential workarounds to make root access possible on the upcoming threat of the new Android version.
Features and Changes
While the root access is threatened by the new update, several advantages are going to bless Nexus device owners with the new Android version.
Google Nexus 10 is rumoured as the first-time runner of Android 4.5 OS and powered by Exynos 5 chipset processor that could point Samsung made the device just like its predecessor. According to rumours, Nexus 10 features WQXGA display resolution, 3 GB of RAM, 16 to 32 GB internal storage capacity, 5 MP rear camera, 3 MP front camera and Android 4.5 OS. Transparent KitKat notification and navigation areas have been found on the UI of Nexus 10.
Android 4.4.2 is designed to fix major bugs on 4.4 version, but reports flooded Google with new issues or persistent old ones that could imply why Android 4.4.3 or 4.5 is needed. Several issues on Android 4.4.2 includes:
1. Pop-up error on the download process
2. Bluetooth connection problems
3. Low-light video quality on Nexus 5
4. Microsoft Exchange bugs
5. Poor battery life.
Android 4.4.3 or 4.5 is expected to support all Nexus devices running Android KitKat and selected non-Nexus Google Play edition smartphones such as HTC One and Galaxy S4.
