Google's release of the Android 5.0 L looms. Recent information suggests that the next mobile OS update may be around the corner should the tech giant stick to its usual timeline. The first devices in line include Nexus units like the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus and 10 with new units like Nexus 6 and Nexus 8 reportedly to debut with the OS. What can people expect from Google's upcoming releases?

The Android L platform marks the company's biggest jump since the Gingerbread to Ice Cream Sandwich switch. One of the most prominent features of the Android L is the Material Design. Experts agree that for Google to work towards a more uniform platform, it has to unify its UI including design. According to Android Geeks, people can expect more fluid animations, colorful interface, shadows and additional 3D effects. The interface will be more intuitive. It will also have ART, 64-bit support, lock screen and status bar enhancements.

Google introduced the platform back in summer. It has already released the Developer Preview on Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 confirming its release within the year. According to reports, if Google will stick to its timeline then people can expect Android 5.0 L later this fall or around October.

To support the release of the Android 5.0 L platform on the Nexus line, Android Police spotted a Chromium.org thread featuring posts from Google employees. According to the thread, the employees have been running the Android L through Nexus 4. According to the report, one poster said: "With my N4 on Android L, I could open these images in the native Android Apps (Galary/Google+ Photos), that employs the native WebP support in Android." The person was also seen with a Google.com address.

The Android L platform discussed in the thread goes by the label "LRW52G." Google has not released an official announcement yet about the upcoming Nexus devices and Android L platform.
