Android 5.0 Lollipop Features Ambient Display On Google Nexus 6, Functions Like Active Display On Moto X
The Android 5.0 Lollipop has been officially revealed and the Android fans are eagerly waiting to get onboard on their Android devices. The new OS has plenty of cool features. Among them, the Ambient Display feature which works like the Active Display feature available on the Moto X.
According to Android Police, the Ambient Display can turn on the display of the device when a user picks it up so that it can be used readily. Also, tapping the display screen twice will be able to wake up the device. The Active Display feature on Moto X also functions in the same way. The Ambient Display feature is available on the Google Nexus 6. The very same feature also lights up the display for few seconds whenever it receives a new alert and shows a preview of it.
Until now, the feature was not available in the Android OS but was made available by Android skins from various manufacturers. The said feature is available on the iOS for quite some time. The Ambient Display will not work on every handset that receives the Android Lollipop update but it will only function when supported hardware is present in the device.
On the Google Nexus 6, users will be able to see a new option listed under display settings, which reads "wake screen when device picked up or notifications arrive." Enabling this feature will wake up the device from sleep when the device is picked up or when it receives new notifications.
On the Google Play Store page of Google Nexus 6, you can see more information about Ambient Display for Nexus 6. It does not say what the function is all about but rather states that the 3220 mAh battery of Nexus can produce a standby time of up to 250 hours with Ambient Display feature enabled. Also, with Ambient Display feature disabled, the device can produce a standby time of up to330 hours. PhoneArena adds on it by stating that the Ambient Display can eat up 20 percent of standby time on Nexus 6.
