Android 5.0 Lollipop Is The Official Name Of The New Android OS
The Google Nexus 6 phablet and the Google Nexus 9 tablet have been announced. Both the devices come preloaded with the last Android OS called the Android 5.0 Lollipop (codenamed as Android L).
Since Nexus devices are always known to receive Android updates before other devices, the Android 5.0 Lollipop is expected to be available on other Nexus devices like the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10 and Google Play Edition smartphones and tablets from other brands.
Apart from Google Nexus devices, the Android Lollipop OS is expected to be available for a host of smartphones from different brands. When it comes to Motorola, the first gen and second gen Moto X, the first and second gen Moto G, Moto G with 4G LTE, Moto E, Droid Ultra, Droid Maxx and Droid Mini are all set to receive the update.
Other devices that are poised to receive the Android Lollipop include HTC One, HTC One M8, HTC One Mini, HTC One Mini 2, HTC One Google Play Edition, HTC One M8 Google Play Edition, Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Edition, LG G Pad 8.3 Google Play Edition and Sony Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition. The Android Lollipop is the successor of Android 4.4 KitKat OS that came out last year.
According to PhoneArena, the new Android L OS will sport a revamped interface with the arrival of Material Design that mainly enhances the visual presentation of the OS. The overall response of the new build has been improved and has been designed to deliver smooth performance through the new ART runtime.
It also brings a feature that is quite similar to 'Continuity' in iOS 8. The new Android Lollipop will be able to deliver fluid performance on multiple devices. It will allow users to start a task on one device and continue it another device.
The battery saving mode is another feature to look out on the Android Lollipop OS. Unlike the Ultra Power Saving Mode present on Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy S5, the said feature will not disable certain features to save on the battery. It will be able to churn out 90 extra minutes of battery life.
