Android 5.0 Lollipop Statuses For Google Play Editions: HTC One, LG G Pad 8.3 And Sony Z Ultra
Android 5.0 Lollipop update is finally available to some Google Play Edition models following the release on Nexus devices. Here are the software statuses for HTC One M8, HTC One M7, LG G Pad 8.3 and Sony Z Ultra.
Current Google Play Edition Devices With Android 5.0 Lollipop Software Update
Google Play Edition variants of LG G Pad 8.3 and Sony Z Ultra are currently receiving the official Android 5.0 Lollipop. Android Authority reported last month that LG G Pad 8.3 GPE is the first of its kind to receive the official Android 5.0 update. It comes with the file size of 405.4 MB and brings the latest features such as Material Design user interface, performance improvements, lock screen notifications, automated interruption controls for notifications, Android Smart Lock and battery saving mode to extend battery life.
Sony Z Ultra GPE is also receiving the latest Android software version via OTA process with file size of 397.3 MB and requires more than 500 MB of free space on the internal storage for installation, according to Android Central. Based on the image uploaded by the website, the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for Sony Z Ultra GPE comes with similar software changes found on LG G Pad 8.3 GPE including the bold visual style from Material Design UI, performance improvements, notifications on the lock screen and the native power saver.
Users of both LG G Pad 8.3 and Sony Z Ultra Google Play Editions must ensure that there is enough free space of more than 500 MB on the internal storage for the installation to proceed. Battery level should be more than 50 percent to avoid power interruption during the installation process.
Other Google Play Edition Devices Receiving Android 5.0 Lollipop Upgrade
Google announced all Google Play Edition devices will be receiving, if they haven't already, Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade after Nexus models. HTC One M8 and One M7 GPEs were supposed to receive the update ahead of LG G Pad 8.3 and Sony Z Ultra GPEs but were postponed due to Google's request. Mo Versi of HTC confirmed the rollout of Android 5.0 last month and the delay in two separate tweets:
@amir_thedude Target is early next week. Thanks.

@DarienSumting Darien, not tomorrow. Google requested one more SW spin. Will advise once we receive approval. Thanks. — Mo (@moversi) November 21, 2014
Other GPEs expecting the upgrade include Samsung Galaxy S4 and Motorola Moto G. The TouchWiz variant of Galaxy S4 is reportedly currently under testing phase for Android 5.0 Lollipop, while Motorola already made the new software available for U.S. owners.
