Android 5.0 Lollipop Update Status: 2014 Moto X Pure Edition Jumps to Latest Android Ahead of Nexus 5
Motorola is giving 2014 Moto X Pure Edition owners, and those planning to grab the device this coming Black Friday, a solid reason to celebrate - the kit is getting Android 5.0 Lollipop real soon, perhaps even earlier than Google's own Nexus 5.
A report by Ars Technica pointed to the likelihood that among the 2013 and 2014 flagships, it is the Motorola Moto X Pure that will get a taste of the sweet Lollipop 5.0 first. Of course, the Nexus 6 is an exception as the device will start selling this week and out of the box it will have the freshly-baked Android.
And to underscore that the Moto X is flexing the Lollipop power soon, Ars Technica suggested too that Motorola's device will likely beat the LG Nexus 5 to the next Android race. Now being a stock Android smartphone, the Nexus 5 is only expected to boast of Lollipop first, at least immediate after the Nexus 6.
Moto X before Nexus 5
But that will be the case and the publication has a logical explanation.
"There haven't been any Lollipop updates for Google's Nexus devices, presumably because Google didn't want to steal the Nexus 6's thunder," Ars Technica said on its report, which makes complete sense.
Going by the same argument and if indeed the first Nexus 6 units will reach consumers by November 12, Google is likely to wait a week or two before it deploys Lollipop 5.0 to Nexus devices, in which the Nexus 5 belongs.
That makes a late November or early December Android 5.0 arrival for last year's Google hero phone.
It also means that the Pure Moto X would open up for Lollipop anytime next week or possibly even this week, likely outpacing the LG G3. Earlier this week, LG has announced that the G3 will be wrapped with Lollipop probably ahead of the Android flagship pack.
The Moto G too
It appears as well that even the popular Moto 6 will beat the Nexus 5 and LG G3 to the race as Motorola issued advisory of its nearing Lollipop update for the Moto line of devices.
Now it's hardly surprising that both the Moto X and G or other Motorola devices will get Android 5.0 Lollipop in advance as the devices run on near-stock Android builds that makes it easy for their makers to reconfigure the software for swift redeployment.
