Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update available for Galaxy Note 4; release imminent for Galaxy Note 5 users

Samsung is busy working on preparing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates for its different flagship smartphones from 2015 and 2014. Samsung is expected to release Android 6.0 for the Galaxy Note 5 in this month. Fresh information, however, has revealed the South Korean giant has begun to rollout Android 6.0 for its 2014 flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.

Owners of the unlocked edition of Galaxy Note 4 in Hungary have started receiving the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update, according to Phone Arena citing information from Hungarian blog NapiDroid. The model number of the Galaxy Note 4 currently receiving the update is SM-N910F. It’s interesting to note that even if Samsung has released the latest Android build to Note 4 users, it hasn’t released any official statement about it.

The Android 6.0 update for Galaxy Note 4 handsets brings new features like Doze for improving battery performance and Google Now on Tap that displays contextual search results on the basis of what’s available on the display. It also brings a new Air Command menu and a new option for making notes by scribbling on the screen using the S-Pen stylus.

A leaked Samsung document that surfaced recently revealed Galaxy Note 5 users will first receive the Android 6.0 update starting this month. The other three Samsung flagships for 2015 -- Galaxy S6 Edge+, S6 Edge and S6 -- are going to receive the Android 6.0 update by January 2016.

The leaked document mentions that Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge users are slated to receive the update by February 2016. Samsung has done something out-of-the-box by releasing the latest Android 6.0 build for Note 4 instead of more recent smartphones. The update is currently not available for carrier-branded Galaxy Note 4 handsets.
