Android 6.0 Marshmallow update released for Galaxy Note 5 by mistake; roll-out imminent for Galaxy S6 Edge+
Users are likely to receive the latest Android build before the end of 2015
An alleged Samsung document recently surfaced that revealed when the company intends to release the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update for its smartphones. The arrival of the latest Android build seems all the more imminent since a T-Mobile Galaxy Note 5 user named Danon claims he’s received a rogue update of the Android 6.0 build.
Danon says on XDA Developers that since he was facing a problem with the IMEI number, he used the Odin tool from Samsung to reinstall on the stock firmware on his Galaxy Note 5, TMO News reported. Once his handset was restored to the stock firmware, he performed a System Update.
Instead of receiving the N920TUVU2COJ5, the latest update made available by T-Mobile for Note 5 users, he ended up installing the N920TUVU2DOK5 update. The update he actually installed was the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS.
To prove what he said is true, Danon shared several screenshots of the build MRA58K.N920TUVU2DOK5 currently running on his Galaxy Note 5. All the screenshots are available on the XDA-Developers link. It’s said it’s the same build previously rolled-out for Google Nexus devices like the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6.
Although Danon managed to install Android 6.0 on his Galaxy Note 5, the device still doesn’t have an IMEI number. It seems the official roll-out of the Android 6.0 for Galaxy Note 5 users is quite near as he was able to install the most recent Android build by unintentionally fooling the system, Phone Arena reported.
As of this writing, there’s no confirmation from T-Mobile as to when it will roll-out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. Since the leaked Samsung document revealed the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge+ will receive Android 6.0 by December, users of these flagship smartphones are likely to receive the latest Android build before the end of 2015.
