The HBO Now service offered is no longer exclusive to Apple devices. The company announced on Thursday that it will start offering its stand-alone Internet streaming service to Android and Amazon Fire tablets as well.

"Amazon has cultivated an incredibly vast and savvy base of customers that we're excited to provide with unlimited access to all of HBO through HBO NOW," said Bernadette Aulestia, Executive VP of Global Distribution Operations of HBO. “The addition of Amazon devices is another great stride in the distribution of HBO NOW and affirmation of our long-standing partnership with Amazon.”

HBO Now will be available to Amazon Fire TV and Fire TV Stick users in the following weeks. Aside from this, Amazon is further improving its services for customers by adding tons of new content. In less than five months, the company has added over 700 new channels, apps and games to Amazon Fire TV, and over 300,000 apps for the Amazon Fire tablet.

Unlike HBO Go, HBO Now allows access to all of the premium cable services including original TV series, movies, documentaries, and sports and music programming without a subscription to HBO. Users need only an Internet connection and must pay US$14.99 [AU$20.33] per month as subscription fee.

HBO Now was first announced last March at Apple’s WWDC event. Since HBO Now is no longer exclusive to Apple devices, Android users can now catch up on HBO content including original series like "Game of Thrones" or "Veep" on-the-go.

The streaming service can be downloaded on any smartphone or tablet running on at least Android 4.1 and on any device running the Amazon’s Fire OS. Android and Amazon Fire users will get a 30-day free trial service upon signing up through Google Play or the Amazon App Store. HBO Now will be available to both Android and iOS users worldwide.
