Looking forward a bit, most probably for 2014 release dates, two designers shared their visions of the handsets that would replace the Galaxy S4 and the Nexus 5.

Concept Phones contributors Suman Chatterjee and Introoo allowed us glimpses of what they believe would be the 2014 flagships coming from Samsung and Motorola, the latter partnering with Internet giant Google.

Mr Chatterjee's take on the Galaxy S5 is nothing too radical, largely borrowing Samsung's Galaxy signature of thin and curved-corner profile.

His render, though, is short on jaw-dropping specs. The GS5, in his mind, draws much of it allure on a gigantic display screen that stretches on the left to right screen, with hardly a bezel in sight.

The top and bottom portions, however, were retained to accommodate the phone speaker, the front cam sensor and the proprietary Samsung capacitive buttons. As shown in the picture, they are where they should be as provider for in the earlier Galaxy S series.

The GS5's back portion, however, seems out of tune with the latest indication from Samsung that it will transition from plastic case to aluminium shell, beginning with the hotly anticipated Galaxy Note 3 that reports said we all get to see on September.

In short, this future Samsung flagship remains trapped in the cheap plastic era of high-end smartphones, at least if you ask Mr Chatterjee.

Moving on to the Nexus 6, which according to designer Introoo will be the collaborative effort of X-Phone and Nexus engineers, handset details are generously provided.

The concept assumed that after the Nexus 5, its existence still subject for Google's confirmation, Google would merge the technologies governing its mobile device business.

By 2014, according to Introoo, Google's flagship smartphone will be known as the Nexus 6 X-Phone, thereby settling the debate on which device should get the latest Android vanilla on that same year.

It will be Android 6.0 next year and Google would call the bumped up platform as MilkShake, keeping the sweet tradition that the Internet giant has started a few years ago.

The Nexus 6 looks odd for now, but who knows it would be hip after some months or users would learn grow into loving the octagon style that Introoo is trying to peddle.

Beyond the form factor, the new render is indeed forward-looking.

Consider the impressive specs: a 4.6-inch OLED display screen with a 1280 x 768 pixel resolution, a 10MP main snapper with GPS paired with a 2MP front cam, NFC chip and wireless charging support plus barometer, compass and gyroscope sensors.
