The long-awaited update for Android 4.0 or Android ICS (Ice Cream Sandwich) has slowly begun for Samsung phones and with this development; many people are expecting that other companies would follow through.

Samsung

Korean-based firm, Samsung has already started their upgrade to Android 4.0 or Android ICS and the company started with their Samsung Galaxy S II smartphones. The announcement about the update was announced through the company's official Twitter account stating the following:

#ICS for #GALAXYSII will be available today in Europe including Poland, Hungary, Sweden, & Korea, & gradually roll out to other markets.

The Android ICS update started last March 13 but the only countries to receive the said update were Korea, Poland, Hungary and Sweden. As mentioned in the Tweet, update for other countries would follow through. To date, Samsung has not yet announced any official date about the Android ICS update in other countries. Despite that, Samsung released a statement explaining the update process mentioning that carriers also play a vital part in the process. Samsung remarked that "The availability and scheduling of the software update and specific models upgradable to Android 4.0 will vary by market and wireless carriers' requirements."

On the other hand, Samsung Nexus S owners are also expressing their disdain about the Android 4.0 update because the update for this model was pulled out. The reason cited for this "pulling out" was due to battery and Wi-Fi issues. So far, no official news has been released about the availability of Android 4.0 in Samsung Nexus S. Many people are frustrated with the lack of news regarding this matter because one of the selling points of the Samsung Nexus S is the promise of an upgrade to Android ICS as soon as it is released.

HTC

HTC, the Taiwan-based smartphone manufacturer is also in its early stages of upgrading to Android ICS though no official date has been announced. The company's Sensation line is the first to receive the update which includes HTC Sensation, HTC Sensation XE, HTC Sensation 4G and HTC Sensation XL. Aside from the Sensation line, other HTC phones that would get the upgrade include the following:
