Android Marshmallow update for HTC One M8 on Sprint imminent
Good news for those who own the HTC One M8 on Sprint or its special Harman Kardon edition. The handset has started getting the sweet taste of Marshmallow.
Starting from Jan.30, the carrier will start rolling out the over-the-air (OTA) update of Android 6.0 Marshmallow for the handset. Mo Versi, VP of Product Management at HTC, made this announcement on Twitter. He confirmed that the company has received technical approval of the Marshmallow OS update.
To manually check the availability of the new firmware, users can head to Settings > About phone > System updates > Check For Update. The update is rolled out in a staggered manner and may take time to reach all users.
Android Marshmallow will bring in several new features like enhanced app permissions, auto backup, Doze mode, Now on Tap, fingerprint sensor, support for USB Type-C and Android Pay. While responding to queries from his followers, Mo Versi also mentioned that HTC One M9 on Sprint might get Marshmallow next week.
The Taiwanese company has already started rolling out the Android 6.0 update to unlocked M8 units in the US. Earlier this month, HTC One M9 on Canadian carriers including Sasktel, Rogers, Wind and Videotron also started getting the OTA of Android v6.0.
For those who are unaware, HTC One A9 on Sprint has just started receiving the Android 6.0.1 update, as mentioned on the HTC Support page. The update will bring in battery life improvements, camera features and system enhancements, and incorporate Wi-Fi calling functionality.
Earlier in September 2015, HTC confirmed that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will be rolled out to HTC One M9, HTC One M8, HTC One M9+, HTC One E9, HTC One E9+, HTC One ME, HTC One E8, HTC One M8 EYE, HTC Butterfly 3, HTC Desire 826, HTC Desire 820 and HTC Desire 816.
