App Maker Doist Uses Concept of Karma to Boost Personal Productivity
Karma, a spiritual concept embraced by different eastern religions, has been tapped by app maker Todoist by integrating gaming into its multi-platform task-management software. The tech firm Doist aims to give personal productivity a new boost in a novel way.
The app seeks to provide advanced visual insight into the user's productivity. Adding or completing tasks yields positive karma, while postponing or having too many overdue tasks results in a negative karma.
For newbies to the app, Todoist Karma has five levels that start from beginner to enlightened. As one goes up the spiritual ladder, earning further positive karma becomes more difficult.
In tech terms, to see one's progress in karma, all the user has to do is hover the mouse for a liner graph to appear as seen below.
The graphs show the user's productivity in the past two weeks, including the number of completed tasks.
A person's karmic progress is visible across seven different platforms and all these graphs will be in sync and accessible wherever you use the Todoist Karma app.
The app moves away from the usual todo-apps' focus on tasks that need to be completed by including what was actually accomplished. By including gaming elements into the app, which at times could be uninspiring and malicious, the makers of Todoist Karma app hopes "to improve people's productivity in a fun way while helping them achieve more," Amir Salihefendic, founder of Todoist, said in a statement.
The use by the developer of the concept of karma could provoke some techies to go beyond graphics into a higher spiritual plane. For those who are interested to learn more about the concept of karma, here are the 12 Laws of Karma to ponder upon while seeking to achieve as many tasks possible.
