App News: Twitter Gets a Report Button; Organize Android Games with Google Play Games; LinkedIn Updated to Offer Direct Job Application
Apple may have presented a load of new apps and software to make the iOS even more of a hotspot for developers to channel their game developments into, but Google also knows that its users are avid gamers, hence the devotion of one app entirely for managing games.
The recently released app Google Play Games was created to serve as a gaming hub that lets you organize everything related to gaming. This included gaming achievements, gaming friends and the games themselves, reported Android Police.
In fact, if you think about it, this was similar to Apple's Game Center, which is also available for the iOS 7.
The Google Play Games was first seen in the new Nexus 7 device, where it was a pre-installed app to display all the gaming information you need. The report added that here, you can launch games directly while you are in that app or be redirected to the Play Store if you want to buy or download more games.
As a social hub, Google Play Games also lets you see what your friends are playing and what their favorite games are. There are even Easter Eggs that you can obtain with Google Play Games.
CNET recently reported a way to unlock an Easter Egg via the app, wherein you would be using the Konami Code. Here are the steps as laid out by CNET:
- Simply install the Play Games app, then go to Play Now screen.
- Enter the first part of the Konami code with gestures going Up, UP, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right.
- You'll see a pop-up display if you have done the gestures correctly. Tap the B, A, and Start buttons that will appear in the display following that same order.
- Enjoy your unlocked achievement.
Twitter in the UK Gets the Report Button for Android
Now, even Android users in the UK will be able to report or flag abusive messages directly from the tweet and without the hassles of filling out forms, thanks to the introduction of the report button.
Just recently updated and slated to roll out in the next coming month, Phone Arena reported that the report button, which is the same as the one already made available for the desktop and iOS versions, will now be heading for the Android.
However, given that the need for the button was initiated by regional issues instead of a global one, it seemed that a version in the U.S. will not follow suit.
This may push people to pause for a while before using Twitter as a way to bash others because apart from the report button, the definition of abuse has also been modified to include targeted abuse on a specific person.
Apply for a Job Anytime, Anywhere
Ever felt that those precious moments in the commute may be the difference between landing a job and having someone else take the opportunity for you? No worries, because now, LinkedIn added another feature for applying for jobs, and this time, you don't have to get home to your laptop to get to it.
According to PC Mag, the new feature allowed job seekers to apply for a job vacancy with the use of the mobile app for LinkedIn, both for Android and the iOS.
"We have heard from many of you that you want the ability to apply directly from your mobile device but that managing and editing resumes on a small screen can be challenging," said Vaibhav Goel, associate product manager for LinkedIn, wrote in a blog post as reported by PC Mag. "With that in mind, we're introducing the ability to apply for jobs without a resume attachment from mobile."
Before you start wondering how on earth you can edit your CV in the small screen, LinkedIn's solution was to simply put a click button on the job vacancy so you can apply.
For those that require applying via the company website, PC Mag added that you can easily edit your LinkedIn profile, confirm with your details, and hit Submit, so that your CV will be sent directly to the employer of your choice.
