Apple's New and Cheaper iPod Touch

Apple discreetly removed the iPod Touch 4 from its online stores and replaced it with a new iPod touch with a price of $229. The new iPod touch looks the same as the iPod touch 5 but without the iSight camera and the loop for the wrist strap.

The new iPod only comes in two colors, silver and black, unlike it's the more colorful variations of the fifth generation iPod. The new iPod touch has a 16gb memory, 4-inch retina display and a dual core A5 chip. The new device is ready for purchase online and shipping takes only 24 hours.

The release of the new iPod is quiet and without much fanfare. Although the new iPod touch doesn't have any new features, it is pegged as a replacement to the older hardware of the iPod touch 4. Without a rear camera, the price is $70 less than the feature-packed 32 GB iPod touch 5. Owners of older models of the iPod touch might be inclined to upgrade their devices in preparation for the expected launch of the iOS7 in June 10.

Apple also confirmed that the company has sold 100 million iPod touch units since its product line release in 2007. This statement is according to a tech blogger who spoke to company representatives.

Although not quite the attention grabber as its cousins, the iPhone and iPad, the iPod touch remains to be an amazing piece of technology. It's the perfect gift for teenagers who want to be connected to social media networks through open WiFi networks with a front-facing camera for taking selfies. The new iPod touch is positioned to a younger generation of individuals to experience the iOS for the first time.

The low-profile release of the new iPod touch is sparking renewed talks about the budget iPhone coming soon. Only one way to find out and that's on June 10 when Apple makes a formal announcement.
