Apple (AAPL) Works on Thinner and Lighter iPad 5
The next version of the best-selling Apple tablet is rumoured to be released very soon. According to Digitimes, the iPad 5 will have a slimmer and lighter design similar to that of the iPad mini. Apple is slated to begin production of the latest iPad in July. Ahead of its September launch, the mass production of the lighter and thinner iPad will soon begin according to undisclosed sources close to Apple's supply chain.
Monthly product shipments are estimated at 2 to 3 million units by the time September comes around. Reports also claim that the display will be the same as the iPad with Retina Display, currently at 2,048 to 1,536 resolution. This is great news for people who want a lighter and thinner iPad without sacrificing screen resolution.
The rumours also say that suppliers for the iPad 5 will include Samsung Display, LG Display and Sharp for the screen panels. Taiwan Surface Mountain Technology will supply the LED light bars. Apple device components will be provided by Coretronic, Radiant Opto-Electronic and TPK Holding.
It is expected that the new iPad will still have a Retina display like its predecessor, the iPad 4. The new iPad will have glass within the Retina display using the latest technology in sensor touch. A thinner backlighting device will be installed to reduce the bulkiness of the iPad 5.
Speculation is expected to continue over the new features and design of the iPad 5 as the Worldwide Developer Conference of Apple is fast approaching. Rumour mills are clamoring for more information on the latest iOS devices including a possible release of a new series of Macbooks.
As always, Apple neither confirms nor denies the rumours. Apple has a history of coming up with a few surprises of its own. The public will just have to wait until the event on June 10.
