Apple to Beat Google on Insanely Great Camera Features for iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPad Mini 2 and iPad 5
iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPad Mini 2 and iPad 5 with New Approved Patents
New patent approvals obtained by Apple last week will open the door for power-packed camera features in the upcoming release dates of iPhone 5S, iPad Mini 2, iPad 5 and even the rumoured iPhone 6.
These snapping enhancements will likely make their way on iOS 7 devices, which also include the iPod, the MacBook and the iMac, Patently Apple said in a report.
The basic principle of the camera bump up is "colour balancing and correction," that will ensure iPhone or iPad users will get phenomenal camera results that are comparable to high-end standalone shooters.
The four camera patents, according to Patently Apple, are the following:
- Transformations and White Point Constraint Solutions for a Novel Chromaticity Space
- Alleviating Dominant Colour Failure in Automatic White Balance Using Histogram Trimming
- Use of Noise-Optimized Selection Criteria to Calculate Scene White Points
- Multi-Illuminant Colour Matrix Representation and Interpolation Based on Estimated White Points
The first patent concerns more on image processing or "for a novel chromaticity space that may be used as a framework to implement an auto-white balance solution."
This new technology will introduce ways of "creating a novel chromaticity space that may be used as a framework to perform color balancing on images captured by a variety of different image sensors," the Patently Apple report said.
The second patent deals with colour balancing, in which the iPhone 5S or the iPhone 6, for instance will be equipped with "techniques for alleviating problems associated with dominant color failures in auto white balance (AWB) algorithms."
The third and fourth, Apple said, will allow for best possible camera use with the aid of new features such as "noise-optimized selection criteria ... and multi-illuminant colour matrix representation."
The main object is to let iPhone and iPad users enjoy top-notch camera features that will surpass the offerings coming from rival Android and Windows handsets.
These patents will highlight iOS devices edge over its competitors, especially when the upcoming camera functions are subjected to real-life situations like shooting photos of a live rock band performance or outdoor activities such as hiking or mountain climbing, Patently Apple said.
The new camera features were officially introduced by Apple before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office on Q1 2012, indicating a solid possibility that the upcoming iPhone 5S, iPhone 6, iPad Mini 2 and the iPad 5 will showcase them on release dates.
