Apple Inc Replaces iPhone 5 Chargers after Chinese Woman Electricuted
After a Chinese woman was electrocuted while answering a phone hooked up to a charger, apple inc is issuing replacement chargers for a limited time. The third party fake iPhone 5 chargers are manufactured in China. The initiative comes after reports that a Chinese woman was electrocuted by a non-apple charger. In fact, several incidents of electric shocks have been attributed to iPhone chargers and apple inc. has decided to unveil a world-wide programme to fix the problem.
The cost of the replacement is $10, say reports.
The woman who was killed using an iPhone 5 charger, Ma Ailun, was answering her iPhone when she received an electric shock. Though apple inc’s announcement for replacement of chargers was attributed to safety concerns, Ms. Ailun was not mentioned in the announcement.
In order to protect Chinese customers, apple inc made changes to its website so that iPhone users in the country could ensure that they got the real deal.
Apple Inc will replace batteries for iPhones, iPad, and iPods for $10, which is less than the $15 charged by retail stores. The battery exchange will take place until October 18.
Users of iPhones and related products can exchange their charger for a new one. The new chargers can be picked up for each apple device from service providers or Apple stores.
Apple Inc responded to calls for safe disposal by saying that the fake rechargers would be discarded in a way that is in line with environmental guidelines, BBC News reported.
