Apple has been recognized for introducing innovative touch screen devices. According to a recent patent sighting, Apple has started working on touch-sensitive buttons. The new touch system can differentiate between actual finger inputs from an accidental activation. It can prevent accidental access and may even allow Apple foolproof its devices even more. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office released a patent continuation about Apple's work on touch-sensitive buttons. The patent goes by the title "Configurable Buttons for Electronic Devices." Under this system, Apple works with a physical button related to a touch sensor that can recognize if a user's finger is accessing it.

By including a touch sensor on the button, the device can differentiate if the user's finger accessed or an inanimate object just brushed up against it accidentally. This should allow Apple to avoid accidental button presses and other problems associated with it. The same system will be useful for Apple's upcoming wearable electronics like the iWatch.

Wearable devices are prone to accidental contact when worn. It should assure users their devices and data are safe regardless of what they come in contact with. The patent comes with illustrations. It shows an unused design featuring a wearable clip-on iPod shuffle. One render shows a device with buttons temporarily disabled given the clip on the device's rear gets pressed. This allows people to wear devices on the front without accessing or activating any of the buttons.

According to the patent, the system can be applied to all portable devices to prevent "unintentional operation." Devices include notebooks, media players, tablets and smartphones. Some of the touch-sensitive buttons cited on the patent include menu, sleep, volume, power and other multipurpose buttons.

If Apple pushes through with the patent, people may soon find it on the company's upcoming releases even the iPhone 6. Apple has yet to make an official announcement about the final details of the iPhone 6. Reuters reported that the company plans to release the 4.7-inch iPhone in August while the 5.5-inch version will come out in September.
