Apple’s recently named partner, GT Advanced Technologies Inc, made some interesting commentaries about what it is going on. According to the company, Apple’s new upcoming flagship phone, the iPhone 6, may be released this fall. The device will launch with sapphire glass and other interesting features. What can people expect?

Tom Gutierrez, GT Advanced CEO, said in the company's official release:

"Our arrangement to supply sapphire materials to Apple is progressing well and we started to build out the facility in Arizona and staff the operation during the quarter. We are pleased to have Apple as a sapphire customer and to be in a position to leverage our proprietary know-how to enable the supply of this versatile material."

"While our primary focus during the balance of the year is to continue to execute on our commitments in Arizona, our aim is to position GT not only as an exceptional sapphire supplier to Apple but also as an unparalleled world-class supplier of sapphire material and equipment to a variety of customers," Mr Gutierrez added.

This means Apple will be turning GT Advanced into a primary supplier working on sapphire displays for many more devices. Analysts believe GT Advanced can experience a company chart trajectory and performance similar to how Corning performed with the Gorilla Glass. The company also added:

"[O]ur entry into sapphire materials may enable us to expand into other materials segments once we have fully ramped the operation in Arizona. The many diversification and investment seeds we have planted over the last several years in the LED, power electronics, advanced solar and industrial markets are expected to begin to bear fruit over the next 18 months."

"We are seeing significant interest in our new products and now expect equipment orders from these initiatives to be received during the latter part of 2014, with meaningful revenue recognition beginning in early 2015."

Along with the sapphire display, reports about the iPhone 6 sporting quantum technology started surfacing following a patent cited describing a similar technology. According to Trusted Reviews, there have been at least five patent sighting supporting the use of quantum dot technology.

According to the patents, Apple will be using the technology to improve the colour reproduction in the retina display. Light will be emitted using thin quantum dot films. If Apple can do this, the iPhone 6 may sport a display similar to quality of the Kindle Fire HDX tablets. That is, 920 x 1,200 on the Kindle Fire HDX and 2,560 x 1,600, if resolution is improved.
