Apple's iPhone 6 has received a great deal of interest even months prior to its release. It a consensus among analysts that it has been one of the most anticipated releases of the year and even from Apple's own line. To sum it up, it appears Apple will stick to its original timeline of iPhone releases this September. The device will also reportedly feature sapphire and liquidmetal materials plus drop-proof features that promises durable and whole new iPhone experience.

Apple's history should be enough to support a September release. Throughout the years, the company has chosen either June or September for most of its releases. According to PC Advisor, Apple's launches throughout the years are as follows:

  • iPhone 1st gen June, 2007
  • iPhone 3G July, 2008
  • iPhone 3GS June, 2009
  • iPhone 4 June, 2010
  • iPhone 4s October, 2011
  • iPhone 5 September, 2012
  • iPhone 5s/5c September, 2013

At a glance, the iPhone 6 will reportedly come out around September with two screen variants: 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch screen. Other reported features include new iOS 8, heart rate EarPods, internal memory expandable up to 128GB, A8 processor and NFC chip for mobile payment system.

Sapphire, Liquidmetal and Drop-Proof Features

According to Forbes, Apple has cleared the patent for sapphire and liquidmetal allowing the company to encase sapphire or glass within the liquidmetal component. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published a grant to Apple describing a special construction process for sapphire glass displays and liquidmetal. Apple has also secured exclusive rights to the exotic metal until 2015. The construction process allows the company to stabilize sapphire materials though liquidmetal. This means if a user drops his/her device with sapphire glass, the glass will not shatter or pop off immediately. The patent also seeks to skip the inconvenient in-between procedures and instead proceed straight to the production of metal chassis display. This can be done through a new metal injection process featuring liquidmetal.

Apple has yet to make an official announcement the device. The company will be holding its Worldwide Developers Conference this June. Announcement of the iOS 8 should also provide more information about what people can expect from the iPhone 6.
