Apple iPhone 7 will not sport a Smart Connector
For the past couple of months now, Apple’s iPhone 7 lineup has been speculated to sport a Smart Connector port, which can be used for both data transfer as well as charging the device.
Fresh reports, surfaced on Japanese website Mac Otakara (via MacRumors), indicate that Apple’s rumoured iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will not include the much anticipated Smart Connector port.
A Smart Connector port is capable of transferring data and power between the said device and other peripheral devices.
However, previous rumours never provided a transparent view of what functions would the new port offer once it is included into the iPhone 7. The Japanese report claims that the tech giant has dropped the idea of incorporating the Smart Connector for its next generation of iPhones. Apple is yet to confirm the same.
In March, Chinese website Bastille Post published an image of a probable iPhone 7 with three dots at the bottom, indicating a Smart Connector port. The authenticity of the surfaced image is still questionable.
Last year, Apple first introduced the Smart Connector port on the 12.9-inch iPad Pro for connecting Apple’s own Smart Keyboard with the iPad.

Earlier rumours and speculations suggest that with the iPhone 7, Apple will do away with its 3.5mm headphone jack and include a lightning port. But recently surfaced images contradicts the rumour as it shows the presence of an audio jack.
The iPhone 7 is also believed to come with quite a few display innovations and a new design with no camera bump. Other speculated Apple iPhone 7 specs include a dual-camera setup for the premium variant, wireless charging and water resistance.
Apple is rumoured to unveil its upcoming iPhone 7 line-up later this year. The tech giant is known for releasing its flagship devices at its annual fall event scheduled in September. Apple has not yet confirmed the official iPhone 7 release date.
