A new report suggests that the rumoured iWatch could see 10 million owners within one year from the launch date of the device. The report based its prediction on the response from the U.S consumers.

The research was conducted by Investment firm Piper Jaffray, as reported by Apple insider. The survey took into account responses from 799 U.S consumers. The report expects a 2 to 4 percent of iPhone users to buy the iWatch.

With more than 290 million estimated iPhone users, the iWatch could hope to sell around 5 to 10 million units in the first year. The early adopters are expected to be mostly Apple fans who already own iOS devices like the iPhone or iPad.

Apple has still not made any announcements pertaining to the iWatch, but the speculation in the market is rife after it filed for patents for a touch screen wristband device. The company has also registered the word "iWatch" as trademark in many countries.

The actual sales of the device however, depend on the strengths of its features, usefulness and price. The survey by Piper Jaffray took an estimated price of $350 for the survey. The smart watch by Samsung - the Galaxy Gear is priced at $299.

Morgan Stanley also had conducted a similar study to estimate the number of sales the iWatch was expected to make in a year. The report expected annual sales revenue of $10 billion to $15 billion from the device.

Even with the higher expectations of sales from the device, the iWatch may not be a major focus area for the company, the Morgan Stanley report estimated. Apple has projected revenue of up to $187 billion even without the iWatch.

The company is still expected to launch the device in order to innovate and stay competitive in the market; rivals like Sony and Samsung have already launched a smart watch device in the market.

The Samsung Galaxy Gear smart watch was launched as a companion device to the Note 3 smart phone. One of the main features on the iWatch, analysts expect to see, is the way it interacts with the other iOS devices.
