Last year, Tim Cook acknowledged the increasing competition about wearables. This time, Apple no longer just acknowledges the sector but will also be participating in it. According to latest reports, the tech giant has been gearing up for the release of its iWatch. The device will reportedly start at $400 placing it in the high end category with analysts expecting it to be a game changer. What can people expect?

During the D: All Thing Digital Conference, Tim Cook noted the potential of the wearable sector according to Re/code. The Apple CEO said: "There are lots of gadgets in this space right now, but there's nothing great out there."

Nonetheless, he also did not think that there were enough or worthwhile products available. "But none of them are going to convince a kid that hasn't worn glasses or a band to wear one ... There are a lot of problems to solve in this space. ... It's ripe for exploration. I think there will be tons of companies playing in this space."

According to the report, Apple will be introducing their device at a $400 price tag which puts it under the high end bracket - much like other Apple offerings. Google's wearables average around $200 while Samsung Galaxy Gear 2 Silver smart starts at $300. This marks Apple's first attempt at wearables.

According to Forbes, the iWatch can be a game changer especially given Apple's ecosystem and phablet plans. The iWatch and the bigger iPhone 6 can be the ideal tandem supported by the company's own health application.

The iOS 8 has been discussed as more health-inclined platform allowing Apple to integrate wearables just right into its ecosystem. Previously, 9to5Mac reported that the Cupertino giant has tapped sports stars like Kobe Bryant to endorse the product possibly.

Apple will be holding a media press event this September 9. There are no details as to what products will be announced but analysts expect iWatch to be a part of that.
