Apple iWatch vs Android Wear: Battle of Wearables
The IFA and Apple's press event are days away meaning people are also just a few moments away from seeing the next generation wearables. Google in partnership with Sony will reportedly be releasing a version of the Android Wear during the IFA while Apple will reportedly be unveiling the iWatch this September 9. It is not just about a battle of smartphones. Which timepiece can dominate? Will both companies be able to deliver?
According to 9to5Google, Sony will be releasing its SmartWatch 3. The device will be a considerable upgrade from previous models because it will be running with Android Wear. While the Sony SmartWatch 2 came with Android , many commented that it is extremely skinned. The Android Wear will be an ideal companion to the device offering a better OS platform. Other features to expect include IP58 Certification and 1.68-inch 320 x 320 display.
Different from Apple's iWatch, Google's Android Wear has been announced officially. According to the previous claim, the Android Wear platform will feature a traditional wristwatch design. Google have been reportedly partnering with other design brands to put more variations. Other companies like HTC, Motorola, Asus, Samsung and LG have also been reportedly working on releasing their own versions of the Android Wear.
Apple's iWatch has been much in the same spotlight as the iPhone 6. According to Forbes, the device will likely come with a $400-price tag. If this pushes through then the iWatch will belong to the high end category same as with other Apple products. However, some supply chain sources say that despite the possible announcement of the iWatch this September, it may not ship until 2015. The iWatch will reportedly work in tandem with the phablet iPhone 6. It will also function with iOS 8 and be part of Apple's HealthKit. Apple has not made any official announcements yet. According to Bloomberg, the iWatch may also allow people to make phone calls and check relevant location information.
