Apple Launches The iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus Along With iOS 8, Apple Pay And Apple Watch
Apple hosted an event at the Flint Performing Arts Center in Cupertino, California and unveiled the new iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus along with iOS 8, Apple Pay and Apple Watch. A lot of people attended the event and live threads covering the event were also made available by some members of the press and Mashable is just one of those that were able to cover live.
iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus
Apple started the event by introducing two iPhones, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 plus. The new flagships of iPhone 6 comes with a 4.7-inch screen which is the iPhone 6 along with a 5.5-inch screen, the iPhone 6 Plus. These new iPhones will be available in 32, 64 and 128GB variants. The new phones will have Retina HD Displays that is reported to update the resolution to be brighter, more stunning with IPs liquid crystal. The new phones are packed with pixels. The iPhone 6 Plus will sport a 1920 x 1080 display of pixels. The iPhone 6 is 6.9mm thin while the iPhone 6 Plus is 7.1mm thin. Apples seems to take full advantage of its large screen.The new phones are reportedly to be powered by a new generation 64-bit A8 chip. According to Mashable, this will double the number of transistors and graphics will be 50% faster even if its 13% smaller. The new phones will have better battery life, faster WiFi.
The iSight is still at 8MP but it will have Focus Pixels. The phones have Phase detection autofocus, for almost twice faster autofocus, better tone mapping and noise reduction. Its video can go up to 60FPS and it can take slo-mo video up to 240FPS.
The price of iPhone 6 starts at $199 for a 32GB variant, the 64GB variant costs $299 and the 128GB variant costs $399. The iPhone 6 Plus costs$299 for its 32GB variant, its 64GB is at $399 and its 128GB is at $499.
iOS 8
iOS 8 was also mentioned and it is expected to have the features that were mentioned in rumours but the new thing about iOS 8 are the one-handed messages, new notifications and about its TouchID with third party apps. It can be downloaded starting Sept. 17 which is two days before the new iPhones go on sale.
Apple Pay
Apple Pay is a new feature from Apple. The company made several partnerships so that the new app can function as NFC, Touch ID and as a Passbook App. Cards can be registered on file to be used in paying for iTunes and restaurant bills. This will start in the US with 6 largest banks, debits and credit cards.
Apple Watch
Lastly, instead of iWatch, Apple introduced the Apple Watch it is a rectangular watch that has a touch wheel on the side that looks like the iPod wheel that zooms in and out. The dial is called the digital crown that allow users to zoom in and out. It also has Retina display on it. The display is reported to sense both force and touch. It has photo sensors at the back.
There are three variants of Apple watch that was introduced. The Regular, the Sport that comes in gold and the Apple editions. The Apple Watch will work with iPhone 5 or later. It features the Force-touch the display, swipe gestures will allow users to control music on the iPhone, iPod or Apple Watch. The new smartwatch features fitness and workout apps. It uses GPS and WiFi coming from the iPhone.
The iPhone 5S and 5C will still be on sale and will be shipped starting Sept. 19 in 9 countries. The pre-orders will start on Friday, according to Mashable.
