Apple Logo on iPhone 6 Might Double as Notification LED; Roughly 80M iPhone 6 Units Ordered Targeting Release Date—Reports

Leaks from the recent past have been pointing to a lot of internal components of the upcoming iPhone 6. However, the mystery surrounding the logo on the rear of the iPhone 6 is still unsolved. A fresh leak suggests the Apple logo on the back of the handset is, in fact, a notification light/LED. Furthermore, if reports are true, Apple could be gearing up approximately 80 million 4.7- and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 handsets on the release date in September.
In the hindsight, the rumours pertaining to the logo on the back of the iPhone 6 seems to have originated from the leaked images of the iPhone 6 rear panel. Apparently, the images belong to USwitch that was later verified by the credible leaker Sonny Dickson, according to Phone Arena.
Going by the image, the back panel of the iPhone 6 features a brand new "plastic" Apple logo. Specifically, the plastic trademark material is supposed to be thin enough to let light pass through. Based on the report, the logo might also function as notification LED/light on the upcoming iPhone 6.
Similar to Android devices, the LED notification light could change colours for different types of notifications. Although there is no confirmation on the actual usage of the rear logo of the iPhone 6 at this point, the logo surely looks different from the iPhone 5S.
According to another report, Apple has requested its supplier to prepare a maximum of 80 million iPhone 6 units. This includes both the 4.7-inch and the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 models. The whopping quantity is predominantly due to the predicted user demand, says The Wall Street Journal (via MacRumors).
Reportedly, this is the biggest order tol date and also a huge increment from the ordered units from last year. In 2013, Apple manufactured roughly 50 to 60 million iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C units. Apple might have raised the supply owing to the fact that the company faced more demand during 2013's iPhone 5S release triggered by the introduction of its Touch ID fingerprint scanner.
With a complete redesign anticipated for the iPhone 6, the demand for the upcoming handsets will be too high with the introduction of the much-loved bigger screen size. In addition, there are quite a lot of expectations around Android users switching to iOS with the upcoming iPhone 6. A surge of 15 to 20 per cent is expected out of Apple iPhone 6 sales YOY, says MacRumors.
