Apple MacBook Air 2014: 3 Reasons to Upgrade Units
With a few months before the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), it has come as a surprise for Apple to release the updated versions of its MacBook Air units recently.
Although there was less pomp about the event, the updated versions are still solid improvements so users have three reasons to upgrade their notebooks.
More Affordable
Apple cuts down cost of all starter and professional units alike by $100. For the 11-inch models, the starting price for the MacBook Air is now pegged at $899 while the starting price for 13-inch models are now slashed to $999. These wallet-friendly figures are actually the most affordable in Apple's history of notebooks mass production, which have traditionally been set over $1,000 price points.
Faster Processors
The new models now have dual core i5 and i7 Intel Haswell chips introduced during 2013 WWDC. The usual 1.3 GHz processors have also been upgraded to 1.4 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 128 GB hard drive and 5,000 HD graphics. These updated specs hold true for all starter and professional units so those who plan to upgrade their units will actually get to enjoy more value for their money. There are also options to put more life into the MacBook air processors for additional costs. For instance, TurboBoost of up to 3.3 GHz can be availed for extra $150. The hard drive can be doubled to 256 GB for additional $200 and the RAM can be doubled to 8 GB additional $100.
Longer Battery Life
For the starter units, the battery can now last up to 9 hours while the battery of professional units can now be consumed up to 12 hours. With this upgrade, users can now listen to music, watch movies, surf the internet or work on the documents all day long without the need to plug in their notebooks to power supply.
These three reasons are indeed great features to upgrade the existing Apple MacBook Air units.
As Philip Schiller, Apple senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, puts it at the Apple press release: "Macs have never been more popular, and today we've boosted the performance and lowered the price of MacBook Air so even more people can experience the perfect everyday notebook."
